The LUNA 2.0 airdrop was scheduled to be conducted on May 27. However, Terraform Labs have announced that it will now take place “on or around May 28, 2022, at 06:00:00 GMT,” with the mainnet being deployed on “May 28, 2022, at around 06:00 AM UTC.”
Please note that GMT and UTC refer to the same timezone.
The “post-attack” snapshot was taken on May 26 at block 77990000, which gave developers just 24 hours to create the genesis file and launch the mainnet for LUNA 2.0.
Given the timeframe, it is not surprising that the launch has been delayed. However, after the myriad of issues that have plagued the Terra ecosystem over the past few weeks, a further delay does not bode well for the project’s reputation.
Terraform Labs have laid out the following steps;
- TFL to release the penultimate-genesis.json file with participating validators.
- “TFL will collect all gen_tx’s from validators.”
- “Block 1 of the new chain will be produced following a supermajority of interconnected validators running simultaneously.”

Terraform Labs have already released answers to some of the most common questions raised by the community regarding the launch of the new blockchain.
- Terra Station, Terra Finder, and Terra Observer will all be “fully functional” at the launch of LUNA 2.0.
- Launch dates for dApps running on Terra will be announced by individual projects.
- A complete list of exchange partners listing LUNA 2.0 is forthcoming
- Liquid LUNA tokens may be staked on Terra Station for rewards
- Non-vested LUNA tokens will appear in “users’ wallets automatically.”
- Staked tokens will appear in Terra Station under the “stake” tab
- Holders of LUNA on exchanges should check with their exchange as to how the airdrop will be released
